Help Choosing Sponge To Rid Microbubbles Out of Sump

Hello everybody,

Just wondering if anybody out there can give me a hand choosing a good sponge for my sump, right now I have a sponge in there that fits between the single bubble trap, actually I wouldn't even consider it a bubble trap, but anyway, the sponge that is in there is to fine or dense and causes my sump to start to fill up and then spill over the wall instead of going through the sponge, so what I end up having to do is leaving on small end of the sponge open so water can flow freely, but then this causes micro-bubbles in my main tank, and I can see them starting to build up on the underside of the tank, I was wondering if anybody knew of any good sponges to use in my sump that aren't so dense and will let water flow pretty well but also get rid of the bubbles. I will need something about 13 inches long by about 2 wide and 2 thick.

Are the bubbles coming from the drain? If so, use a 100 micron filter sock.

Well some of them are definitley coming from the drain, I don't have the pipes submerged into the water in the sump, instead it spills into the sump into the filter sock, I just went to the website were I bought the sump and its a Eshopps sump, and it came with a 200 micron, so that would mean a 100 micron has finer holes correct? I will give that a try and see how it goes, I have some that come out the end of the skimmer outlet but I put the sponge thats in their right underneath it and it gets rid of those, I also saw somebody, can't remember who, but it was a thread on here, used two corrugated drain pipes, the black ones for puting underground, one bigger than the other and placed one inside the other, I was thinking about either giving that a try or adding another wall where the water goest through the sponge. Thanks for your help, you don't happen to know of anywhere I can get a less dense sponge do you, because I would like to have the sponge run all the way across like its supposed to and not worry about it backing up the water. If I may ask, what return pump are you using? A lot of us have ridden bubbles by running a slower pump.

A hammerhead? Through your sump? On a 55 gallon tank?

wow a hammerhead on a 55, how big are your overflows? you may want to put a true bubble trap in your sump. what is your gph through your sump? not sure what you mean by the underside of your tank.
