Hydor Koralia, Wavemaker?

So due to being unable to use the search function on this site I finally gave in to posting up a question I'm sure has been addressed.

So I am very interested in ordering a pair of Koralia's for my 55gallon set up. I know there were some discussion in the past about compatibality with some wavemakers/controllers. But is there any wavemakers available that are compatable with the Koralia.

Also, which one would be sufficient for a 55? #3's or #4's.

Thank's everyone for any help. I'd like to place an order for this set up tonight on DrFostersmith.

If you can wait a bit a new line of DC koralias are just around the corner. They will have their own controller. Just saw the link today.

I would probably get two #3s. What kind of coral are you trying to keep?

Awesome, do you know how long were talking? Weeks or month or 2?

I'm running MJ900's right now but have heard good things about the Koralia's. I'm mainly keeping soft corals, Anemones's etc. No hard corals.

The only ones that work without making them clunk all of the time is to use a seio controller. It will vary the voltage making them speed up / slow down instead of on/off.

What's the model of the SEIO Controller? The only one I saw on DrFosterSmith had a caution saying it only worked with SEIO Powerheads.

Got it. Will this controller only work with the newest model Koralia's or will some of the older ones work fine as well.

This function is called soft start, and from what I hear from many electrical engineers, there can be soft start built in, but the pumps will not respond until a specific threshold is reached, thus soft start does not really work appropriately.

I'm running 2 Korallia 4's and 2 Tunze 6045's on my 75 with the RK2 (Reef Keeper 2) controller, occasional clunk or two, but not very often, especially consider that they toggle back and forth every 10 minutes.

I guess the RK2 says it has soft start capability. For what that's worth.

I have 4 of the number 4's on a RK 2 in wavemaker mode. They don't make that much noise when they start up (may be the soft start feature). I did read up on a easy mod that seems to fix the startup clank. The mod was just adding some small tubing to the shafts as bumbers.

I'm also considering switching over to this, as it has dimmers built in so you can slow down (not turn off) the koralias. But before I go buy one I'm going to try to hook one up to a dimmer to see how it responds.

I'm glade to see the 12v's with wavemaker but don't plan to change out mine for a while.

With the new hydor wave maker coming out im pretty sure it will work with all Koralias. If im reading it correct it says it works for up to two 12v koralias

I'm pretty positive my korilias are 120vac, I don't see a step down xfrm. I suspect the new ones are low voltage DC. With DC you can adjust the speed down to practically nothing. With AC you can slow it down some but if you lower them too much, AC motors will stop and then just burn out.

No, the seio alternates the power between 50% and 100% at the selected variable, 15 seconds thru 30 minutes.

So, if I'm getting this right, as long as the Koralia's motor will run at 50% of the incoming voltage (~60VAC) then the pump is always running, just not full speed? Correct? Sort of ramping up and down, never on and off.
I think I will ask my LFS guy 9that always has a boat load of Koralias on the shelf, if he knows when these new DC Powerheads and a controller will be available. I can wait a few months if need be.

This gentlman on Florida MArine Aquariums Forum seems to think he found a fix to Koralia bumps and wavemakers. Follow this thread.

Looks like the pumps run about the same but the wavemaker is too pricey at $319.99 for the 2 pump one:
