would a purple rubbermaid be fine?
I plan to use a a piece of LR in it, some pvc, a HOB filter seeded from being in my DT for about a week, a heater, glass therm, and an airstone..... is this fine any suggestions?

Yes, that will work.

Just remember to remove the live rock before you add the fish or any medication, so that you don't carry anything back to your dt.

A ten gallon tank cost $10 at any Petco/Petsmart.

People use larger rubermaid containers in a pinch when they need to QT lots of fish at one time.
