7 Days into new Home Tank
Wanted to post some readings and get some input on them.
46 gallon aquarium, CPR hang on fuge medium, Ramora Skimmer(waste of money), 35 lbs live rock, 50 pounds sand, 8 days old... Temp 80 f ammonia .24 Nitrate 5 Nitrite .25 Alk 13 dKH Calcium 490 Phos 0 pH 8.05 SG 1.024 This tank was started with Tap water, I am waiting on the RO/DI to arrive. In the mean while, I am letting the water sit for a few days to de-chlorify before adding for make up water. TDS at the tap are around 150. Thought the tank had cycled, but now Im guessing that it hasnt. My thought is to let it ride a few more days, comments?

Now before I catch any grief, the clown and the damsel had the worse ick I have seen, sitting in a local (cough)Pet(cough)Co(cough). We helped each other out. They gave me waste and I traded them medication for the ick. Both almost heeled and making waste like anything.

Another question while the bacteria bake.
On this 46 gallon tank , 18 inches deep, 36 wide. What are my options for corals with the 96 watt 10000k, and the 96 watt actinic. Ive set the other two tanks up, one with soft corals and one with hards, but I want to get as much color in this tank as I can with this small amount of light. Flow is good, 46 gallons with, 220 gph X 2 powerheads, plus the cpr hang on fuge and the Ramora Skimmer's 1200, but I dont think I can really count the fuge or the skimmer. I want a lot of color and I am willing to spend the extra time for their care, just cant spend a ton of money on them or on more or better lighting. Options? Also, im seeing a lot of brown algae on the sand, to much light from the compact fluoresent? Im running 12 hours on the 96w actinic, 9 hours on the compact fluo. and 10 hours on the led's. Adv(thanks)ance

Please dont use fish for cycle not needed.
You need to reduce main lihgt time and bring up slowly to reduce algea. Your ammonia is high and a good indication your still cycling. Let it cycle and stop trying to rush it. Whene nitrate and ammonia drop and level then come back and rethread "cycle over now what?". |
