Water change

I am just setting up a RSM tank for the first time and this may be a stupid question, but how do you do a water change and have the water level drop if it will expose the top of the reef setup to air? Is there a way around this?

dont set any corals to the top of the tank if they will be exposed... other than that the rock will be fine

If you have a sump, only the sump level will change. Alternatively, you can change small amounts frequently.

I change 1% daily in my system.

What system do you use to do 1% water change?

Randy:

What system do you use to perform your water changes? do you have some sort of automated system to take care of this? it seems to me as a really great idea to do it this way since it would make the system incredibly stable.

Regards,

Estefano

I use a dual head Reef Filler Pump. It can be set to 0-30 gallons per day, and I set it at 30 gpd and then put it on a timer to only run a bit each day.

I deliver water from an 88 gallon reservoir (two 44 gallon Brute cans plumbed together) and send the new salt water into a refugium. I draw the old water out of the sump and down a basement sink drain.
