Too much light?

just bought a 250w sunpod HQI fixture. Just curious if this was going to be too much light for my 14gallon tank its about 15" to the sandbed.
Thanks!

Thats pretty powerful for the tank size. I would mount it pretty high up, start at 20-24" and see how it goes.

Given your water volume, if you mount the lights too close, you will definitely overheat your water and/or burn your corals.

Personally , I would take it back and get a 70W or 150W.

im not very concerned about them just left overs on the seed rock... just some sort of polyp frags and a mushroom of some kind. what sorta suggestions would you recommend to stock the tank with?

blue i would use the corals to judge the height to keep the light. i dont really have that much eperience w/corals. beetween the way the corals react and temp is how your going to have to figure it.

i would start with what you have, the mushroom and frag. distance the light where its not going to send your temp anywhere into the 80's. let it cycle spend time here. asking questions. check out the nano forum those fellas specialize in smaller tanks. probably get some great input.

it will prob. be to much light for shrooms if to close to the water but it would be great for sps, and most lps corals. i run 2 400's over my 75 gal. and would still like more light. it is a matter of acculimating the corals to the light

I dont plan on doing many shrooms if any it just happens to be on the rock.... if i do any shrooms i will just need to put them in shaded areas.
