How long do fairy wrasses usually hide before you have to worry
I got a new fairy wrasse on Wednesday 3/12 and he was out the whole day. On Thursday day he was out but hiding in th background I made sure he got some food. On Friday he was hiding near the sand. I didn't see him Saturday though Monday. Should I be worried?

Nice Tongan flame, if you don't see it within 3 days I would be worried, they have such fast metabolisms that I don't think they can live much beyond that. What else is in the tank with him you might have a bullying issue you haven't seen yet.

You might need some "dither" fish to get him to overcome his shyness, like some chromis or such. Its a new enviroment for him so if he sees no other fish swimming in the water column he might be reluctant to come out. But give it a day or so I have lots of fairy wrasses and all have come out within 2days or less some even within hours of being added to the general prison population.

My only concern is that I haven't seen him since Friday and I know that he was an aggressive feeder at the store. My luck with wrasses that bury themselves recently has been pretty low.

i had this problem as well. what i did was enter the room with the tank before lights come on and turn a room light on. then sit and wait. mine too was out right after adding to the dt. and then disappeared. be patient. deep breathe and relax. no predators no problem. as long as all parm's in check. the lighting i believe was his problem/adjustment. now he is out all the time.
good luck

Fairy wrasses don't bury themselves they spin a mucus coccoon to sleep in.

He did not jump that is why I am still holding out hope for a few more days anyway.

I got a Radiant Wrasse on Sat and have only seen him once. He came out Monday when the lights turned on. I fed the tank right away. He got some food. Not much but some. I'm getting kinda worried too.
