Ozone - How much?

I was looking at ozone units and found a cheaper one that produces 300mg/hr. How much is recommended? Would that be too much for a 75gal tank? I wanted to hook it up to my venturi on my skimmer. The unit has no controls just an on/off switch.

Thanks for any input

Paul

You shouldn't need anything over 100mg/ph IMO.

If I got the 300mg, would anything happen? Could I do any harm to the tank( water, fish, inverts, rock)? I was just considering it because of price.

Thanks

Paul

300 would be a little big for a 75. Make sure you use an ORP controller. FWIW not all ozonizers are the same. I ran a Sanders 25 mg/hr unit on my 125 and with the controller set to 400 it hardly ever came on for more than a few hours a day. That unit is rated for a 50 gallon tank. It was very efficient. I have heard the red sea ones are not that efficient though I have never owned one. The Sanders was more than enough at just 25. YMMV and I agree with getting the 100 mg/hr unit as stated above. Make sure whatever you do use a controller on it.

Most recommend 0.3 to 0.5 mg/hour per gallon of aquarium water, so 300 would be gig overkill.

Just a thought, can I mod an ozonizer to regulate the output?

I know I'm pushing it...

You could buy an adjustable one or one that fits your system

I know, I just found one dirt cheap, but I'll have to bite the bullet and get a Sanders or Red Sea one. I tried....
