I place my frozen cubes in a ziplock bag, and then hammer them gently with a hard object to break them up into smaller pieces. Then I take a small plastic strainer and thaw/rinse the amount I want to use with RO/DI water.

I make my own food and still had the same issue. The food gets thawed in a shot glass in the refrigerator with ro/di water and is fed using a wide bore plastic syringe. After feeding it goes back in the fridge. If you thaw half a cube at a time that'll be about two days of food. That's the max I'd leave it in the fridge.
BTW, don't get a tall skinny shot glass. Fish food spilled in a refigerator is not a relationship enhancer ![]()

That is a good idea to break it up frozen. I keep the unused portion in a cup in the fridge until it starts to smell bad...oh wait...it always smells bad. I've used thawed food that is 3-4 days old, it sounds like that is too long?

Why do they make those cubes so big anyway? Prob. so you use more and buy more quicker.
