From what I understand, there's nothing self-sustaining about them. They have Opae ula (I think I spelled that wrong) shrimp, that come from Hawaii. The shrimp basically take a really long time to starve to death in the "ecosystem."
The shrimp have a natural lifespan of 12 to 20 years in the wild, but about 2 to 3 years in a sealed jar.

Thanks. I thought the claim that it would sustain was suspect at the least. The claim that it the algae could sustain them seemed possible from the stand point that the carbon cycle was sealed, as to say carbon cant leave the enviroment so it is constantly recyled. But that cant possibly be the case with inorganic compounds that are used out of the water such as iodine, iodide, moly, mag and mang. I could be wrong in this thinking.
I guess it comes to a choice of conscience then since they were only like 20 shipped. Can one live with the choice of buying something to have it starve of whatevr already knowing ahead of time. |
