putting skimmer/return pump on timer
My sump is simply way to loud. I'm putting my Return Pump and A2 Skimmer (70 Gallon Tech) on a timer to turn off in the evenings while I'm home. My sump is just a sump(no fuge or bioballs).
I have a Vortech for internal circulation. Thoughts? Concerns? I can't think of a valid reason why I shouldn't. Can you see something I'm missing. |

If you have a DSB or plenum, you may be concerned about DO.

odds are youll be OK then, youll know after the fisrt night I would think.
You will be running without a safty net so to speak, if anything bad happens 5 minutes after you go to bed, youll be screwed. |

Do you know why it's loud? Is the water just dumping into the sump?

Yeah the water is just dumping into the sump. I've slowed it down, but it's just still loudly dumping. I have the Oceanic Tech Tank, and the stand is glass on all sides so it doesn't provide any sound barrier.
I'm not too worried about temp. I have some flex down at night and then warms back up during the day... I've been doing this for the last week. Everything is fine, it's essentially like not having a Skimmer for 12 hours per day. |

It seems like it could work but I might be worried about DO, and temp.
