Protein Skimmer for a 600 gallon liveholding system
Hi all,
I was recomended this forum because I'm the operator of two 600 gallon live holding systems of a seafood restaurant. One of the systems is holding live mollusks and we are in some serious need of a good protein skimmer. The space we have is limited so i don't think a sump installation wolud be posible. I don't know jack aboutprotein skimmer except for what they do, but I need one thats effecient, compact, and that can be installed by conecting it by plumbing to the system. Can you make some recomendations?????? Thnk you for your help! |

there are a bunch of recirculating skimmers, octopus, deltec, are the first two to come to mind. check out premium aquatics online for the octopus, and i think deltec has its own website to order off of. the deltec is going to be very expensive, but run great pumps. the octopus are just about the opposite, cheap and run cheap pumps. i have no clue as to which one to recommend in each line, but email those companies to get a start.

Propably the most efficient and powerfull (and expen$ive!!!!!) protein skimmers are the ReefFlo Orca, KZ Revolution, and Bubble King. If you don't have that much money the Octopus and AquaEuro are also pretty good, but not as powerful. But any way, are the mollusks for decoration or do you serve those as food to customers?

Are they independent systems or plumbed together?

Yes the species are for human consumption and the systems are not running together. We have limited space above the tanks since they are tall and the filter box is on top. We do have some space on the side of the tanks, like 2 or 3 feet.

HEY RICYCOLON. I think the BERMUDA skimmers are realy good for skimming systems of the size you have.

Many commercial systems use ETSS skimmers. They take less room than a needlewheel, use more electricity, but they scale well past 600 gallons and are pretty compact. You can pick models that are short and squat, or narrow and tall.
I'm not saying they are the most energy efficient if you have lots of space, but but they are tried and true.
