Phosban reactor w/o foam to collect bubbles

I have been using two Phosban reactors for phosophate media and carbon. I think they are great... every efficient and effective.

But... I am having problems with the foam washers at the bottom of the cylinders. Over a couple weeks they start to collect air bubbles that eventually cause the entire foam to rise up.

Anyone have a solution?

Can I just remove the foam... or do I need to use larger media...

Thanks in advance
