help with new tank set up

well I want to order a tank, probably just from my LFS, but I'm not exactly sure what I'll need or how to set it up, this will be my first tank with a sump/refugium....

anyway it will be a 75g with starfire most likely, but I don't know what to ask for to have it "reef-ready".... my plan is to have the 75g on a basic stand and in the stand I want to have a 40g sump(not sure about size??) and a refugium(same thing not sure about size??).... SOOOO my main question is how do I set all of this up???

start by reading here. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1031074

also you can look at other ppl's built threads to get a good idea of how you want things to give you ideas.

well I know the basics of lighting, feeding, and maintaining a tank ... I'm just confused on how to drill the tank and what to do about overflows and such.... pretty much the plumbing confuses me a lot.... So the PVC pipe goes to the skimmer in the sump, that goes though the LR in the sump and then is pushed back into the main tank, so where does the refugium go in there?

The first thread on a build that comes to mind is Tswifty's build--it is very well documented:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...readid=1310919

this site is also very informative:

http://www.melevsreef.com/55gal.html

and there are many other links to builds on these two:

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...6#post12055086

this one is great for setting up refugiums and sumps

reef ready means that it is predrilled and an internal overflow is added. sometimes the back glass is drilled for a closed loop circulation(not really needed in a 75gal)
You would do well with a 75 with one internal overflow and one inch holes drilled for drainage and return

Basically the water flows into the overflow and drains down into the sump which will house your protein skimmer , heater ect then it is returned to the the tank by use of a pump.

I should have suggested you also read this series of articles by Waterkeeper at the beginning of this forum

No offense...but you have 900 posts and no knowledge? Maybe you were in a different forum or something...I dunno. ANYWAYS:

Let me tell you, this IS the place for beginners tho! My tanks are awesome, thanks to RC and their community!

I have no knowledge about plumbing and RC and the internet are my 100% only way of getting info on how to do something so when I have a question I ask it here because I don't have any friends or family into this hobby.... that is why I have 900 posts and I post a lot to help others not make mistakes I've made or just simply things I know from reading.....

The more preplanning and research upfront the better.

Plumbing is one of those things that can look intimidating but is relatively simple.

Start out by sketching some ideas and posting them. RC members, including myself will help you out.

If you look on my thread that capn posted the link to, you will see how many different sketches and layouts I went through when trying to decide.

I have that book, must have read it 50 thousand times lol.... anyway just so you know this is not my first tank, just my first tank that will be drilled with a sump and refugium.... I'm actually looking into cuttlefish atm, main concern with them is being able to feed them everyday and making sure I have excellent filtration lol anyway thanks everyone!
