GSM with a Blk/White

I posted up the 'story' behind this guy in the Hybrid Clown Exp Thread (Clown&Nem Forum)

Aint he a beauty? haha. He hosted in about 5 minutes!

I've wanted one for quite some time. The only thing I'm worried about is, if it's a female, and my blk/white is a female, will they fight to the death? Do the GSM change sexes like other clowns?

So far, it hasn't been bad

All opinions welcome

Oh, the black/white is bigger than the GSM, and I'm assuming that the blk/white is a female

Once they ( all clowns ) turn female, there is no going back. So, if they are both female, I don't see good things coming.

I read that Maroon males appear more bright red. If this is the case, it's prob a female cuz the one next to it in the FS was really bright red, but I liked this one better.

Dang, I've had my blk/white for a year and a half. I really don't want to give her up. Do you think the BTA will help?

I just got a text, I guess the blk/white is "all up in that" now

funny, cuz I've had the BTA for over a month now, and she didn't go in there at all

any tips on distinguishing male/female for GSMs?

I had a pair of GSM many years ago, and both of them were the same color -- dark. So I don't believe you can tell male and female from color. Mainly size.

How long has the GSM been by itself?>

Thanks, that's good to hear about the colors.

I just bought the GSM yesterday, the LFS owner told me he was there for 2 weeks. I don't really care for that guys "service" it was a diff FS than I usually go to, so he could be just blowin smoke....anyways,

The blk/white has been "single" since:
I traded out a false perc for the true 1-1/2 weeks ago
The false perc had been in there for at least 8 months, probably longer. I think they were paired up, the false stayed pretty small the whole time

It is hard enough to pair up clowns, let alone when you are mixing species, and aren't sure if they are both female or not.

Hopefully the B&W is a male, but at this point can't be 100%. All you can do is keep a close eye on them, and hope it works out for the best.

I'm almost positive the B&W is female due to her size, compared to the small false perc that was in there.

I guess I'm just hoping the GSM is a male, otherwise I may need to "donate" another clown

You think a second nem on the other side would help if they DO start fighting?

Thanks for the help

the problem is the maroon should always be the female when mixing maroons with more peaceful clowns.

the chances that the maroon will become submissive to the ocellaris are slim.

time will tell

Thanks, I was wondering when you would reply! haha

I just got off the phone with my LFS (the good one)
They've got two BTAs, one rose, but I'm not ready to pay $80 for a small rose.

I'm considering getting a second BTA for the other side...
A nem/clown combo on both sides of my tank might be cool
This may only delay the inevitable tho...

i would put the anemones next to each other to make them feel like they have a large home together splitting up the anemones could cause the maroon to break pairing and go wait on the other side of the tank for a more suitable mate.

So you think it's possible, if the maroon is a male, that they could pair up?
