Collecting Copepods & Amphipods

Does anyone have any info or advice to find info on collection of copepods and amphipods from the Atlantic Ocean from New York, New Jersey down to say Maryland>

Looking for techniques, ideal locations, what species are there.
What are good or bad.etc?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to do some hunting this summer!

I would look into some of the tributary systems along the Delmarva penninsula. Drag large clumps of seaweed up onto the shore and shake out into a clean collection bucket. See what you get. Some may be good, some may be harmful.
I believe you will get some replies that it is wrong to do it as you may introduce toxins into your tank from the polluted watres. I say take a chance with a limited test in a seperate tank setup and see what happens. Let us know!

PS - I know you can lots of mole crabs in the surf zone around Rehoboth. Spent hours when my kids were young there doing that. Are they reef safe?

I don't want to introduce them into my systems right off, I'm interested in isolating and identifying some beneficial organisms and then attempt to culture them.

I'd like to add more biodiversity to my tank, but plan on doing it very carefully.

I actually had 8 molecrabs a friend gave me long ago. They were very interesting creatures, but none of them survived after about 2 months. I was dosing phyto for them, but they are tidal flat creatures, not bottom of a reef tank creatures.
Anyone else have experience with either of these subjects???

The foam on the beach is just like the skimmate from you protein skimmer. If you were going to collect anything from the ocean i suggest going off shore to do it.

From what I understand, lots of people have not had any problems collecting on the beach. Probably would just avoid the foam.

i have done it on the beach by collecting the seaweed and shaking over a bucket. No problems so far.
