Pond Foam and Nitrates

Considering that foam/sponge filter blocks, etc. can be nitrate factories, could using pond foam from a spray can for building structures in your tank be just as bad?

6 year old post. I'm starting to wonder if my reef wall isn't why I can't get mine down.
