Well, I came home form school today to find my male ocelaris clown was on the flor, not totaly dry, so I put him in the tank and still 20 min later he is not moving, so I assume he is gone.
![]() It is about $30 for shipping but it is almost that much in gas for us to drive the 85 miles to the nearest store that sells SW fish. I was wondering if the clowns that you buy from them are still juvenile so that it can make the transformation into male, since I already have the female. It says 3/4" to 1-1/2", but I am not sure if that is still juvenile?

As far as I know, they can always make that transformation. If your existing clown is large, purchase a very small one. That way, there will be minimal dominance fighting and the small one will become male. (if it isn't already)

I would get a smaller fish
If once a clown fish turns female it can not turn back to male so if you get a smaller clown it will develop into a male and will most likely pair, were if you bought one larger they would probley be both females and would not get along. |

My female clown jumped a couple of weeks ago. I went to the LFS and bought the smallest clown they had. I kept it in QT for 2 weeks as I didn't want to wait much longer for it to change genders. Once I added they previous male they instantly connected. I don't know if they've paired up but they certainly are best buds right now.
Good luck with your match making! |

And as a sidenote, Foster and smith has a 14 day guarantee. So if it would cost the same to have it shipped or to drive and purchase one, I would go with the one that has the better guarantee. And perhaps you could ask F&S to ship you a smaller one, that way you are less likely to end up with another female.

Thanks for the help. I believe we are driving to denver on sunday (I think we had a trip planned anyway) and I will try to pick one up. 2 years ago I had my female jump so it was just the male left (the one that just died) and I got a new one and they also boned instantly. The female I have now seems rather lonely, just staying in the same corner more than usual. And last night when I fed them she did not come out to eat, although she still did eat what food floated back to her. But I think that is normal for a clownfish to do when they lost their buddy of 3 years.

I had a fish jump right through my eggcrate one day. So I tried this instead. It might prevent that from happening again.
