just curious
Hello people, I'm and old school saltwater enthusiastfrom way back in the day, I'v been outta the game for years now, now i'm trying to go back into it. Im currently have a 50 gal. tank and just put together a 20 gal. refgium/sump. Please let me now if i'm on the right path here, or am i missing something, and what i should do next?? thanks, this is where i stand...
1. purchased 50 lbs of LR for a 100.00 (not bad) fiji. I cured it myself, and has been cycling in a tote for a week with a skimmer. 2. Got 20 lbs of live sand and 20 lbs of regular sand mixed... 3. Got a berlin skimmer powered by a 2500 rio sub pump (is this skimmer good) 4. eheim heater 5. couple of jbj power head for flow. (should i replace these for better flow, with what ? and brand thats good for my size tank )? thats it for right now. I just put in the sand yesterday, and became cloudy but started to settle today I also put in the LR and still alittle cloudy and slowly getting clearer. Along with that i got my sump / refugium up, took a little tweakin, but everything seems to be flowing correctly. this is on my future shopping list 1. nova extremes pro t5's So what do yall think so far and what to do next. And what else do i need to purchase ?? thanks your opinions /advise is greatly appreciated...let me know |

You're on the right track. There have been a lot of technological changes since we did this twenty or so years ago, so take it slow. Welcome and good luck!

I'm personally impressed with how well the karolias work for the price. I would say 2 of the #3's and it'll give you nice even flow

I would increase your flow with one of the newer "flow" pumps available The koralias are good way to start.
I would also look into replacing that protein skimmer. Not really a good one. Since you have skimmer you can keep an eye out for a good deal on a used one. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_search...ate_Pumps.html Protein skimmers. I highly recommend this one. It is a german deltec skimmer just rebranded. Same exact thing as a deltec. http://stores.petorama.net/Detail.bok?no=73 |
