EuroReef RS135 users....I need your help!

My RS135 just doesn't seem to be pulling enough skimmate, the chamber also doesn't seem to have much air in it either but the skimmate I'm getting is a very thick foam. .

In my 90g I have 3 small tangs and two ocellaris clowns, I feed a variety of frozen, pellet and flake daily and of course my tangs are poo machines. I figured after adding livestock I'd have to change my skimmer cup daily but it never seems to fill up enough to need changing! When I do clean out the cup there is thick mud on the neck and lid and very little skimmate in the cup. Am I running my water level inside the skimmer too low???

Could be. You might need to turn the twist pipe on the side a tad more closed to make it to raise the water level in the sump. It might make that 'mud' collecting on the neck to push up and into the cup more. It should produce more skimmate at that point. Maybe not as dark and concentrated, but it will get some more out.

If you are collecting mud in the neck and not in the cup, the water level is too low. Close the wedge pipe some to raise the water level. The bubbles should break into foam ~ 1/2 way up the neck.

Thanks everyone! My water level is about 2 inches below the top of the neck, anytime I adjust the pipe, even just a nudge, it overflows into the collection cup. I just can't seem to get the foam/skimmate right.

Is your output pipe submerged? If so, it should not be.

No it's not, I've never understood why it comes with the skimmer to begin with.

Should the water return pipe be removed then? Why would ER set it up this way if it shouldn't be submerged? Should I just cut it down?

Also, what foam level do you recommend I run inside my skimmer? I have an RS-80. The manual states I run it "1.5 to 2" up in the cup section" but I find that too high and have overflow issues when I do. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help!

euro

I cut my pipe to just a little above the water. the reason they give you the pipe so you can cut to size. They should have better directions though.

If mine is getting touchy it is usually because the ventura is clogged up with salt. Take it apart and look in the whole, see if you see any. Soak in vinger and clean with a small screw driver. Some times just running hot water through the air intake works.

Heat up water then put tube in the water it will suck it up. Be careful b/c your skimmer well overflow from doing this.

Look at the euro reef thread here. If that does not work call them they will help you out.

Joe
