Local Fish Stores Near Naperville

Hello all,

I was wondering if anybody could give me some input on some good reef stores near Naperville, I am working in Yorkville today and on my way home to Elgin after work I was going to stop at Pet Fun to pick a few things up and thought I might as well visit some LFS, I thought there was a nice one out in Naperville but can't seem to find any, so maybe someone can help me out, any near there is fine, if they are on the way I might stop at a few.

Thanks

Sea Escapes. Corner of Randall and Silver Glen. They are in the strip mall on the north west side of the intersection. If you enter the parking lot from Silver Glen you cant miss it.

1950 Silver Glen Rd
South Elgin, IL 60177
(847) 695-9441

PS: The blonde girl that works there is really cute too

Ya, I know of that one, it actually used to be in Elgin, IMO they have really gone down hill as far as reefing goes, I think they are more into custom stuff now or like making house calls. I thought there was a nice one in Naperville area, besides the one in Aurora on Randall, thanks for the response though.

oh, I haven't been going there lately, didn't now that, will have to stop in anyway, do you know if they carry Rods, I wanted to pick some up today somewhere

I was there a few weeks ago and they had a few tanks with frags and corals in it. Thats the only lfs I go to so I dont know if its considered a lot compared to other places. But everything looked good and healthy.

I dont know if they carry rods.

You might want to try posting this in the chicagoland reef club forum. There is a link to the reef club forums at the bottom of the main page. Good luck!!!!

I was at Reef Plus in North Aurora yesterday on the corner of Oak and Randall and they had Rod's food in stock. I am picking up my Oceanic 90RR setup from there sometime this week . BTW he is also now a Tek dealer, and has them set up over his huge reef. It looks pretty awesome.

There is a PetLand, at the corner of Ogden (34) and 59. They have some salty stuff. Better choices on Thursday eve, Fri. morning, after the new shipment arrives.
There is Upscale Aquatics, in Plainfield (not a million miles from Naperville) that has a great selection, but is a bit pricey, IMO.

There is a small LFS, Land and Sea, in Oswego and Plainfield, that has a small but healthy salt selection, never know they will have in stock. More fish than coral, mostly softies.

As mentioned, Reef Plus is always good, willing to work with you.

My circuitous (yet salt laden) route home from Yorkville would be:

Rt 126 east into Plainfield, stop at Upscale (Rt 126 and 59). Rt 59 North, stop at Land and Sea (59 and 113th). Rt 59 north, stop at Petland (59 and 34). Rt 34 west to 30 west, stop at Land and Sea (30 and Douglas road). 30 West to Orchard north to Oak East stop at Reef Plus (Oak and Randall), Randall Road North - home.

I'm in the same neighborhood, and heres what I've found

ALL PetCos PetSmarts and PetLands near the area are horrible,

Rods Reef, (dekalb) isnt what it used to be but is still amazing (call first)

Reef Plus, (has some stuff, a bit pricey but not much selection IMO)

Land and Sea, (a bit small on the salty side but still a little, not worth the trip IMO)

UPSCALE AQUATICS, in plainfield, my favorite place I have found so far, they literally have 4 walls covered in tanks, all crystal clear and extremely healthy looking, they even have amazing display tanks setup, including 2 3' Black Tip Sharks in the middle, very interesting place to stop buy, its strictly salt water and there is some fresh,,, little pricey but worth it I think, hes willing to work with you,

it is about 15-20 min. drive from yorkville I would say if your driving slow, if your moving, I'd say about 10 -15, btw the address is on 59, if your in yorkville take RT 126 , (schoolhouse RD) all the way up from yorkville to you cross ridge road, and then arrive in plainfield, hang a right on 59, and then your first mini mall on ur right, has upscale in it, very easy to get to,,,, also if your not sure where 126 is, take N. Bridge St. across the bridge, up the hill cross FOX ST, and then left on schoolhouse, you will cross RT 71 and then be on ur way, I hope that helps you out...

I'm a delivery driver in yorkville so I know my way around. :-) any questions let me know

Awesome, thanks for all the feedback guys, Rumlad, thanks for the route, you just simplified things alot for me, as I don't know this area very well, other than working in Naperville area for a while hear and there, but never real paid attention to whats around, I figure I work construction and am all over the place in the chicagoland area so would like to get a feel for whats around, be nice to just stop by local fish store's on the way home to see what they have, Think I will check out that Upscale Aquatics.

Bryman, I was there on Friday, and was talking to him about those lights, they really look great on that tank, me and him were conversing on how much we hate UPS and love FedEx, as its obvious on his lights, the one on the left, the front right corner, don't know if he showed it to you, but man that would make me very angry.

Thanks again guys for all the feedback, days not over with yet, so if anybody else chimes in I will throw it in my route.

If you feel like taking the 20 minute drive to Schaumburg, I think that Advanced Aquatics on Rosselle Road or Beyond the Reef on Golf Road are the best reef shops in this area IMO. Aquarium Adventure on Golf road isn't so bad either.

Haven't found much that I like South of here though.

Alex

Alex, thanks for the info, I have REALLY been meaning to stop by those, I haven't heard of Aquarium Adventure though, but I have heard good things about the others and go by that way all the time and just haven't stopped in any of them, I think this weekend I will make a plan to stop at all three and check them out to get a feel for what they carry.

Thanks for the info
