New Upgraded Lights Ordered- Acclimation Question
I just ordered the following light setup. What would you all recommend in the way of acclimating my current corals to the new light.
Current USA 36 inch Outer Orbit 2x150w 10K HQI-MH w/ 4x39W T5 HO & 18 Lunar Lights I currently have : Large Kenya Tree Coral Green and Orange Zoanthid Colony Two Green Ricordia LPS Favia Brain Coral All are placed up high on the reef because my existing lights are 2 96w power compacts. Currently, the Actinics turn on at 1pm, daylights on at 2pm, daylights off at 9pm, actinics off at 10pm. Lights arrive in one week so I have time. Thanks! Dave

I just did the whole light upgrade thing too, along with many new corals from a buddy who has VHO. my tank having new MH lights 760W.
I light shocked many of my corals and they went into RTN and bleached. I cut my MH light time back to 5 hours a day and have built up from there, every couple weeks going up 1 hour. I currently have them on 7 hours a day. I have also heard of many people using screens on top of their tank, in layers and removing a screen every couple weeks starting with like 3 screens.

Thanks Downhill, I guess I will try the limited light schedule as well as move the corals down low for a long while and then slowly move the light times longer and longer. The screen trick is a cool alternative as well. Also, your girlfriend tag line is great, makes me laugh every time I see it. Good luck with your lights!

yes. also move the corals deeper in the water. i still have many in the bottom of my tank keeping away from too much light. here are some pics of the cycle of light shock that my tank went throught.
when i first got the corals/light: ![]() ![]() ![]() after light shock: ![]() ![]() ![]() Now they are getting more color, pigment, and polyp extension than ever before, but i still only run 7hrs a day, and may or may not bump to 8 hrs.
