large, commercial type, cleaning magnet

thats what I'm looking for. It doesn't have to be made for aquariums or float, but the large mag floats are $120+. anyone know where to get it or have sites online?

I'm looking for something that has a lot of strength to it, so it can more easily scrape corraline aglae.

prepare to spend $100+ for a premium magnet scraper. There is definitely a difference compared to the less expensive brands like the mag-float. The effort alone to move it across the glass is incomparable.

I have seen magnets that are about $100 go for about half that used. So I'd keep an eye out for a used one.

I personally use a Mighty-Magnet and it has been some of the best money I have spend on the obsession we call reefkeeping.

I use the "Algae Free" aquarium cleaning magnets: http://www.algaefree.com/products.html. The advantage of the Algae Free magnets is that their hardwood bases are attractive enough to leave on the aquarium.

effort, I know... if only we could attach the cleaner to a button, remote control style.

thanks for the posts.... has anyone tried buying plain old magnets and glue pads and scrubbers on each end.

You might be better off buying a commercial one.

I have 4 of the Mag-Floats, and have been using them for a while until I got a hold of the Algae-Free Hammerhead Float ($70). Let just say the Mag-Floats are on their way to some landfill. Like corndog said, there is a big difference.

Hammerheads seem to be pretty popular but also come with a heavy price.

Correct me if I am wrong but I do not believe you would want to put a "raw" magnet in your tank anyway. That is the reason they are sealed in the mag floats.
