nitrates--
Silly noob question-
How do you keep the nitrates in check? What do you use as a product if any? (i.e. like phosphates, although there are many ways, you can use a GFO as in phosban reactor)

Chaeto Algae in the sump uptakes nitrates as it grows. When you trim it back then your exporting nitrates and phosphates.
Deep sand beds can also be used. Regular water changes. Keeping the live stock numbers at an appropriate level for your system. A good skimmer. |

Chaeto Algea worked great for me.....I bought a softball size ball from my LFS and after about 2 weeks it has trippled in size....I am using a 26W 5500k home depot bulb.
My nitrates dropped from about 15 to less then 5...... and in about few more weeks I think it will get to 0....works well!!! |
