To sallylight lightfoot or not to sally lightfoot
I have a 120 reef tank with 2 sally lightfoot crabs. They have grown quite fast, but still have little claws. I am taking apart my tank and will have an opportunity to remove them. I see conflicting opinions on whether they are good or not. Some people say no crabs and some say they are necessary. I'd love to hear some opinions and experiences. Thanks Marci

If it where me I would remove them. I am a crab lover and own hermit crabs and mithrax crabs and never had a problem with those two, but the sallies are another beast.

Just my peronal opinion, I think sally lightfoots have been a positive addition to my reef. The have been good at keeping the rocks clear of newly forming hair algae and sediment upon my rocks. They always appear to be cleaning.
I make a point of directly feeding my Sally's with some large pieces of shrimp. Although skittish to start with, they now just come out when I am feeding the tank. At no point have they been any problems to other inhabitants of my reef. Maybe i have been lucky ??. Again just my opinion based on my tanks. Best wishes |
