SPS keepers salt mix recommendations
Hi
I would like to know what salt mix you guys chose to use. My system holds 40 gal. total, 3 y/o mostly SPS, healthy clam and 9 or 10 fish, dosing 2 part 60ml a day I'm very happy with growth now that I upgrated light to 250 MH from 150 MH both Phoenix. As for salt I'v been using mixture of IO and RC and recently purchased Oceanic and did few 10% changes can't see much difference, everything looked good before. I would like to try something new, don't mind if it's pricey since my tank is small. I would like to hear from you folks with successful SPS tanks Thanks Roman |

Seachem reef salt.
Has tested with great numbers! I switched from Reef Crystals which required a lot more dosing to bring concentrations up. |

Tropic marin for me. A little pricey though, but worth it IMO.

I'm using RC, but bringing up the Calcium before water changes. I just started bring up the Mg level too.
I'm interested in changing brands as well with the hopes of not having to dose water change water. |

I use TM. Switched from RC. My results over the past month since the switch have been amazing. I do add calcium and mag to the new water to bump it a bit but alk stays rock solid and SPS growth has really started to take off.

My salts of choice are either the Tropic Marin Reef or the Seachem Reef. I am liking the seachem more right now because of the high potassium levels in the salt and its ph buffering. Works great.

They all have their strengths and shortcomings. Figure out whats easiest to supplement, and go with the salt that needs that.
I use RC/IO because supplementing calcium is easier (and cheaper) for me than removing the phosphate in TM

I usually use what I get for free or is the cheapest but I got a bag of the new Tunze salt and I have to say I am really impressed. I think it is the same as hW Marinemix .... It mixes easily and super clear. My tank defiantly looks better with this salt. This is the only salt I have been impressed with ever and I have used most of them.
I was using Redsea that I got free and while I always had good results with it but it always had a murky look to it and if I let it sit for a few days I always got this dark brown coating the bottom of the mixing bucket… Dave |
