Aqua C Skimmer...How much room above for maintenance
I'm interested in getting a Aqua C Skimmer probably the EV120 or EV180 for my 45g. I don't have a whole lot of room under my tank so I'm just trying to get an idea of how much room I will need for regular mainenance. To get the collection cup off it looks like I might just need 4 inches or so.
Can anyone give me a better or more acurate idea? I don't want to buy a skimmer to find out it wont fit. Also does anyone have any input on the add on waste containers? Thanks |

you only need an inch or less to remove the collection cup.

I had an Aqua C under my 75 that was a pretty tight fit. I found that the problem wasn't getting the collection cup off, but was in being able to clean the riser tower w/out taking the entire unit out of the sump (which wasn't practical due to the tight fit). They're not bad skimmers if you overdrive them with bigger than recommended pumps, but not being able to easily clean the unit led me to switch to a EuroReef skimmer.

I used to have an EV240 under my 220gal tank and there was only 1/2" clearance between the top of it and the bottom of the tank. I never had an issue taking the skimmer cup off for maintenance or doing anything else with it.
On my 500gal tank now, I made a 40" tall stand so I have lots of room. Of course, this tank is now the entire side of the room with bookcases on each end. |
