Aqua Medic turboflotor 5000 shorty 2

I have a friend that uses a Aqua Medic turboflotor 1000 and it preforms well. Anyone have any experience of the 5000 shorty, Im looking to use it on my frag tank setup.

I know the 5000 series, mostly from the 'baby' that my cousin used on his reef. Good skimmers, often underrated and looked over even though they are performers compared to others like ER, Deltec, H&S, etc. I still think the bubble plate skimmers work better though, and dont need as much space. All that extra height in the T5000 series is pretty much because of all the turbulence, which a bubble plate takes care of in a shorter body anyways.

Yep, not much used in N. America but very popular in Europe where they rank higher than H&S and Deltec.

Good skimmer!

I guess I'm going to order the T5000 Shorty 2 and give it a run. Like Hahn said, it could be one of the the most underrated skimmers out there. The size, pump and featurs make it a pretty good buy IMO.

If you do a search, you should find a tiny, but neato 'Aqua Medic skimmer club' thread from a while back.

Thanks Hahn, Do you think the shorty and baby have about the same performance ? I have the room, it would be kinda cool having a 4 foot skimmer.

IMO the shorty is too turbulent for that pump, the shorty 2 is fine, and the baby is 'just right'. The 'tall' is too much for the pump (you need to drain it 1/2 way to start it), and thats why they added the 'twin'.
