You can thread the needle wheel, drill out the holes just a little on all the air intake holes, and the best mod by far is the gate valve.

The thread wheel is just taking fishing line and go around the wheel (up and down and around each arm) about 3 to 5 times. This mod will increase bubble production and chop the bubbles up even smaller.

The drilling mod is very simple. You take a drill bit slightly bigger than the opening on the sound diffuser on the air intake. Drill out both holes and it. Then take the strainer off and were the air line attaches drill that out too. This will also give you more air to the skimmer.

The gate valve mod. The best one by far. This one will involve more money and ordering off the net, but well worth it. The part were the water comes out of the skimmer is the same as 1" plumbing. All you do is buy a few feet of 1" plumbing, a
1" T and 1 or 2 1" elbows. Put a small 1" pipe coming out, then hook the T up there . Put the T on side ways so when it's on you'll have one part going up and one going down. The one sticking up will left alone and is for air. The one going down will go into your tank or sump and you will add a gate valve in it.

I havn't found a store locally that sells 1" gate valves so you will have to order it off the net. A ball valve will help to, but a gate will give you sooo much more controll over the water flow and dialing it in just perfect Well I hope this helps.

Or you can just trash this piece of junk and spend your money on a quality skimmer ;-)

Search this site, you'll come across a thread thats been split 3 times and 90% of the posts do nothing but praise this skimmer. You'll also find all the mods you need/want through the same search.
