Unhappy Lost Serpent Starfish

I had a serpent starfish in my refugium and he has now gone missing. I guess I did not provide him enough places to hide from the light and he found a way to crawl out of the refugium and into the overall sump tank. I know this because the last time I saw him, he was perched on top of the base of my Skimmer. My LFS said (I know, I know, I can hear you guys screaming) to not worry about it and that they had one in the store that hung out around the equipment and had been there for months. It has now been over a week since I last saw him and I have tried lookinf for him throughout the fuge. Should I worry that he was sucked in through the pump and is stuck in the return line? My pump does not curretnly have a cover over the intake, so I guess this is possible. Should I call in the search party or just not worry about it?

My serpent has serious hiding skills. Try throwing some food in and see if he shows up.

I agree--throw a small piece of shrimp in your tank just before the lights go out---or after dark have a look in your tank with a flash light

Yeah, the flashlight is probably your best bet.

I have tried tossing in Mysis shrimp and have swept the area with my flashlight. I even lifted the inner refugium up so I can see clear across the bottom. Still nothing. I have pretty much given up on him, I just want to know if he has died somewhere in the system, will he poison my tank. I have been testing the water and nothing is out of balance.

BTW, your guys advice does work. The one I have in the DT comes out to feed everytime I feed the tank, even with the halides going.

I guess just keep an eye on the trates and ammonia. Cap will probably chime back in and will know better if you need to worry or not.
