instant ocean looks milky???

i just mixed a new batch of IO and noticed that it's a little milky looking. I used RO/DI water and mixed it over night with a powerhead. Any ideas why this might be happening? I made about 40gal and used a mag24 to mix so the water is pretty warm but i wouldn't think that would make any difference. any thoughts?

Since you have mixed it overnight already, turn off the power head and give it a couple hours it should be cleared

I had the same experience with IO. I bought a box of three 50g bags. Went through the first two bags without any issues, but the last bag mixed up sort of cloudy. I noticed that there were small, white particles (undissolved salt?) floating in the water. I strained most of it out with a brine shrimp net and used the water w/o any issues. That's not to say that I am recommending you to use the water... Just sharing my experience.

i read in some post same thing about IO and they use it and lost some stuff check out all the parameter on it first. i personaly would not use it. i used IO that 5g bucket in the past and had no problem. i will actually start mixing my own again in a few weeks after using scripps for over a year

I too got it sometimes, I think it because the water temp and if mixing it too fast (dump the salt too much at once).

this one time, I put the salt in first and then added the water, and that was a very bad idea because the calcium and carbonate were super saturated and precipitated along with a lot of other stuff and it was very bad for my tank

Well, I have no idea what is the effect, but I used it any way.... It might happended like 556 said, that the white stuff settle down on the rock. It take a while (months) to clear up.
I see that I can get away if I do not to mixed if the water is cold, and I sprinkle the salt a little at a time. Let the pump do the mix and add the salt gradually. Here is the pic for your ref.

i definitely didn't add the salt first...the instructions specifically advises against it cuz of the precipitation issue. I wonder if adding the salt too fast does the same thing...hummm in anycase, seems like its okay to use. I think it'll let it sit for awhile to let the stuff settle. thanks for all the responses!
