Vortech pumps and shrimp

Do you think Vortech pumps will suck in healthy shrimp if they are near by?

I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

Actually I did find one of my cleaner shrimps dead and stuck on my vortech. In all fairness, the vortech usually sucks up alot of loose things in the tank, the shrimp may have died somewhere else and then the body got sucked up. I have found zoanthid frags and small shells stuck on the side of my vortechs.

I think that eco- tech has invested a lot of money in that product and although they still have some quirks to work out it is to good of a product to abandon. I use them in our clients tanks and occasionally one malfunctions but thier customer service is quite good.

Foam covers are sold with the pump they will help if you think you may have a issue with sucking up shrimps. i tried the cover once but it clogged up fast,, was very easy to clean and did not even have to shut off the pumps.. perhaps if a shrimp was crawling on the pump when it switches to a high gear it could do some damage but no more than any other brand pump would..

I use two (2) Vortech pumps and not yet had any problems..
I had a meeting with eco-tech at a convention and was under the impression that Vortech will some day go out on their own and not fall under the umbrella of eco-tech.. they are a growing company and see them staying for the long hall. i have tried many types of power heads and wish Vor-tech was available when i started in the hobby as it could have saved some headaches...
