? regarding lighting
How far can a compact flourescent light(55 watt) be above a reef tank and still support soft coral(sea bay anemone, bubble anemone, atlantic anemone) and fish ?
Is there anything I can put on my protein skimmer and filter to keep salt from sticking to it ? Last edited by red_hot_mama; 06/14/2008 at 07:07 PM. |

Fish don't need light only for you to see them. there are many types of soft coral so it is hard to say. It is kind of like saying how much does a car cost? What kind of coral do you want to keep? As far as salt creep the only thing I know of is a wet rag wipe down.

No matter how close your PC is to your tank, I believe you will have a really hard time satisfying the needs of a sebae anemone, which demands even more light than a bubble tip, with a single 55W PC in a 30 gallon. Moreover, I hope you haven't purchased the sebae yet, because it is totally unsuited for a 30g tank, much less a tank with softies. "[T]he record of success in captive care is utterly dismal." To Reef Central 1st off anemones are not soft corals, they are inverts and require alot of light. I agree with abulgin's post. |
