Caterpiller Weed/Spindel Weed

Do we want this in our tank? Will it take over? Does anything eat it? If we don't want it, what's the best way to get rid of it. It looks nice to me, but we're not sure. Thanks for advice.

FYI... We plan to get our first fish today after Father's Day lunch.

Never heard of it. Got any more info or pics?

Have fun picking out your new fish!

I'm trying to load a picture of our caterpiller weed (first photo). Went to photo gallery page, but cannot find the "Upload Photo" option in the instructions. Can someone tell me where on the photo page gallery that is?

Got a maroon clown and bubble tip anemone today for our first fish and purchased invert. They look tiny in our 90g all by themselves.

Also got a small plant for the refugium.

Never heard it called that before but it competes with corals for calcium.

Tweezers should be fine. You might want to siphon at the same time.

Cool, i've had a little of that for a while and wondered what it was. It's the last of the macros to die off after my cycle, and it's now on its way out too. Good to know what it is.

Aquabucket~ do you know the Genus/species? Is it a Halimeda? Thanks

I forget. Its been awhile but it is similar to halimida in that it consumes calcium. Each stalk rarely gets more than a few inches high. I have seen fish only tanks with loads of it before and it looks good in those systems. It can even glow a bit under actinics.

Yeah, I could tell it was using calcium when I first saw some of it die. It is quite pretty, but I certainly don't want it competing with corals for Ca and Kh.

I'm guessing it's like other Halimedas in that most herbivores stay away from it. My Tomini Tang hasn't ever touched it, nor have Nassarius snails or asstd hermits. But low Nitrates and Phospates are finally killing it off; SaltH2Oaddict you might try that if there's a lot of it.

Yep, Neomeris annulata, that's it.

Thanks Chris. Come on in to Aquatek (on Burnet) for your prize.
