HOB Overflow Box

What is the best placement of such item? I have mine to the left side of the tank and I am getting the feeling that it should be centered. On the right side of the tank I can see a "film" on the surface of the water.

I have my return on the right and overflow box on the left. You shouldn't have a film on the surface if the overflow box is doing its job. Are you getting decent water movement through it? What size pump are you using on your return? Does the water rush through the overflow box? Do you have any pics?

I have the return on the right, the overflow on the left, and my Rena XP3 Filstar, in the middle. The water does seem to rush through the U-tube rather quickly and I'm using a Mag 12 pump for the return. No pix, yet.

Does the water "fall" into the overflow box? For an overflow to surface skim, the water must fall into the box. The level inside the box should be lower than the bottom of the teeth. If it isn't, it will not surface skim.

do you have anything disturbing the surface of the water. pointing a powerhead upwards (not directly up as to splash out) but enought to ripple surface will take care of the slime.
i started with my overflow in the corner but felt that i was only utilizing 2 of the 3 sides of the overflow box. with it in the middle i san see water from all sides of the tank flow towards it.

The water does fall into the overflow. I do have my return line that does push out some water on top of the water.

I would like to move my over flow to the middle but I guess I'll just keep it where it is for now. With it being there, the fish can eat all of the food before it gets sucked away.
