protein skimmers

i have a 29 gallon tank right now and in about 6months theres a guy who is gonna get a bigger tank than he alreadys has now its a 120 gallon tank. i wanted to know whats a good protein skimmer and if i can use a 150 or a 175 protein skimmer for a 29 gallon tank until i get a the bigger tank

It wont hurt to run a bigger skimmer as far as chemistry goes because you want to skim as much as possible. The problem with running a larger skimmer is that you will need to push a LOT more water through it for it to function properly. With a 29 gal you would probably be pushing 20x turnover just through the skimmer. Thats a lot of flow. Dont know if your tank is drilled or has a sump but where would you get that much water from?
