Surly Old Lawnmower
Do LM Blennies normally get more aggressive as they get older? Mine used to get along with everyone, but has recently (in the last few months) starting acting aggressively towards the other tank mates. Last night he was even going after my mag-float whenever I would clean too close to him (silly fish).
BTW, I've had the LM for over 3 years, and I haven't noticed that he's grown that much in the last year (may be fatter), but I'm guessing that he must be close to full grown.

How large is it? I've seen them about 8" in the wild. Also what other fish are in with it?

He's not that big, maybe 4 or 5 inches. I've got a Watchman Gobie that has had occasional border disputes with the LM, but recently he appears to be taunting the Royal Gramma and the male Clarkii (by taunting I mean that the LM will get right in the face of these fish making them take a defensive posture). The only semi-recent addition was the Clarkii (juvenile) at the end of last year. The Clarkii has gotten more territorial as it has paired and matured (maybe this has something to do with it??).
Anyway, it was the attack on the mag-float that made me think that the LM has "issues".

It's kinda funny, one of the first comments I ever heard about my LM was "he looks like a grumpy old man!"

Mine used to try to pick a fight with my 130 lb Akita. Until he mysteriously disappeared...
My akita regularly sits with me and watches the tank. When he put his nose to the glass my LM would go straight at him and start flicking his tail around, and he wouldn't stop until my dog left. One day the LM mysteriously disappeared. I checked all around the floor by the tank, and found nothin'. Not sure what happened, but its possible he lept the wall and ended up a dog snack. |

Another thing that changed at the end of last year was that I lost my 5 YO Clarkii. She was the Queen of the tank. Interestingly the 4 YO Clarkii (was male, now female) has never really taken on a dominant roll in the tank like the previous queen. Maybe the LM has decided to become the new ruler.
