I use a mag float, but be very careful it is super easy to scratch the glass if a grit of sand gets in btwn. What I use now is the mag float but then I take an "algae scuff pad" and place it in btwn the glass and the mag. That way there is less force on the glass so if a piece of sand were to get trapped inside it might not be so damaging

I love the easy blade. It is super glued to the mag float and simply holds a SS razor blade. Goes right through coraline in a couple of passes.

magnavore is very good it's powerful so sand doesn't get between, make sure and get the one suited to the thickness of your tank or it becomes hard to move.

We use the Magnavore for acrylic. Pleased with it - they sell "tune-up" kits for them also.

I have tried most of them and settled on Mighty Magnets at http://www.mightymagnets.com/ because they have various options, fit different tank thicknesses, have a coraline algae pad, and because they FLOAT. You have no idea how important that last attribute is until you use one that does not float.

Magfloats are pretty good they go for around $15 but I would use the hand ecstension ones with a razor blade, sand sifter, and glass scrubber these are $22. But I have both

ps: magnets only clean of the brown scum of the glass, not the green or purple algea.
