What does "new" Coraline Look Like?
Just curious. Tank is almost 2 months old and have 130# of nice LR in. About 40% of the rock was bought with healthy Coraline. It's still there and healthy I suppose (nice bright pink). I was wondering what "new" or growing coraline looks like color wise. Does it start off as a deeper purple and then lighten? No apparent algae issue, but on the rocks largely dominated with the coraline, there a dark maroon patches, almost crusty or flaky looking. Not red slime algae for sure. Could this be new patches of coraline growing and it will eventually turn the normal light pink?
Just curious. Camera is MIA and will post pic when I find it (IF I find it ) Tanks! (haha, oh so funny) |

I have a deep maroon coralline that's blood color. There's way more than one species, so it could be a different kind. I recently did a 3-day lights out on my tank, and at the end of the third day my red coralline had exploded in growth and my pink was receding a bit. It doesn't seem to thrive on the high light as much as the pink.

Thanks Chibils, didn't even consider it could be another type. Seems to be spreading well with just 8.5 hours of lighting (trying to prevent any new tank algae explosions)

there are many types and colours. The hard green corraline that is difficult to scrub off the sides of the glass is very popular to.
You can tell it is corraline by the hard sandy feel to it http://www.garf.org/coralline.html
