Any system is fine as long as it has good filters but a good place for replacement filters is www.thefilterguys.biz

looks like a decent filter, but if your city uses chlorimines then you will need to add on a filter just for that purpose.
I buy my replacement filters from bulkreefsupply.com. |

It looks good from my house. +1 on the DI resin upgrade if your city uses Chloramine.

Like some others have said... it's not really the unit itself, but rather the filters you house inside them.
I also support the DI resin addition. Also you should pick up a TDS meter. I just had to replace my filters, here's what I'm running in my unit: Stage 1 - NSF RATED 5 MICRON POLY SEDIMENT FILTER Stage 2 - MARTIKX CTO/2 CARBON BLOCK FILTER Stage 3 - MATRIKX +1 CARBON BLOCK FILTER CHLORINE GUZZLER RO - 75 GPD FILMTEC RO MEMBRANE Extra Housing 1 - ANION SILICA CARTRIDGE Extra Housing 2 - SEMICONDUCTOR GRADE MIXED BED NON COLOR CHANGING DI RESIN I ordered everything from www.thefilterguys.biz

Aquatic Reef Systems was basically absorbed by www.purelyh2o.com who is a RC sponsor. They have been out of business for several years due to a family illness but built a good unit and had good customer service. John was a great guy.
It appears what you have is a prefilter and carbon block in the white housings and a DI in the clear one. Don't be concerned with all the chloramine talk, a good 0.5 or 0.6 micron 20,000 gallon carbon block will do all you need for the chlorine portion and you already have a good vertical 20 oz housing to hold a good quality mixed bed DI resin cartridge. Stick with good replacement filters and you are set. The TDS meter is almost a must, some get by with color changing DI resins but they really are not very accurate and often you end up putting high TDS water in your tank when it has been exhausted but the colors have not fully or evenly changed. A good handheld TDs meter can be had for $20-$25 and is worth its weight in gold. You will not find it at Wallyworld but if you need to order replacement filters get a meter at the same time. |
