Sad little anemone. Will he be OK?
I have recently added a rose bulb anemone to my 90 gallon. When I first added him, he stayed closed up, but seemed OK. When I woke up the next morning he moved down into the rocks (like, where there is NO light). We waited for him to move but he never did so we moved the rocks around to let him get some light. He's still in that same spot and is still closed up and seems highly agitated. We have a little peppermint shrimp that is molesting the crap out of him.
Will he be OK? Should I try to move him? We have 2 occelaris clowns that have absolutely nothing to do with him. My parameters are all in norm ranges (No detectable ammonia, nitrites or nitrates, or phosphates, Calcium is 400 ppm and KH is 9 dKH) Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Best not to move him in my experience. Moving them frequently causes more harm than good, although there are ways to dislodge nems and re-insert them. Chances are, though, it will just move to a similar spot. That's the problem with nems--they go where they want to go, not where you want them to go. I had a RBTA, and it similarly situated itself in a place that I would have thought was bad--under a ledge out of the way of lights. My feeling is that they will move if they are unhappy, need more light, etc. All you can do is make sure your setup is good--lights are adequate, feeding is good, and that you don't have it in a tank with incompatible animals, like softies, mushrooms and other unrelated (i.e., uncloned) anemones. The rest is just a gamble.

I would let it be and make sure you keep the water parameters in line without large swings. They will typically move where they want too. If it moves out of the light then It doesn't want to be in the light. It might crawl under a rock in the back of the tank where you can't see it and stay there. The Anemone's are unpredictable. Clowns will host what ever they choose to host and Anemone's are not always interested in a relationship with the Clowns. Check out this link for some really good

OK. I will wait it out. He just seems unhappy.

Check your flow as well. High flow causes problems. Anemones tend to like to sit down in something.. like a cave or crevice where they can securely fit and feel safe and protected.. then extend out from there.
If your flow is too high it will not do well and will hide. Try adjusting your flow and finding a place where it can wedge between. |

I do have a large amount of flow in my tank. I will check that.

I know! I was waiting for that guy to get eaten, but he just seems to annoy the anemone. I have tried to feed him, but he isn't interested in food right now.
I took out a powerhead (I have way A LOT of flow) and he seemed to open up a bit. He's found a hole in the LR and has pretty much decided that's where he wants to be, I think. He likes that spot. No way to move him now even if I wanted to!

He ate a little today when I fed him. Maybe he's just really ticked. Guess I would be too if I had a pesky shrimp harassing me all day.
