Question Knop C C02 Build-up

Hi,

My Knop C reactor is constantly having Co2 build-up at the very lower part of the reactor, and is preventing the reactor from taking water from my main tank.
Are there any solutions to this problem??
I have cleaned the filter pad several times and also use Knop Media. The reactor is located underneath my 55g tank and is directly connected to my tank.

Thanks

When I was running a Knop C, I would have a similar problem from time to time. I'm not sure it was CO2 though, it might have been excess air coming in from the feed line. If you have microbubbles near the pump feeding the reactor, you may get bubbles in the lower part of the chamber after some time.

I used to do a couple of things to reduce this risk.
First, after filling with new media / water, I would turn the whole unit upside down a couple of times to get as much air out of the bottom of the unit as possible.
Also, once the eheim pump is turned on, I would shake the unit to get the last of any trapped air out of the pump / bottom of the system. Only then would I turn on the CO2.
As mentioned before, make sure your feed pump is not bringing microbubbles into the unit.

If you're still getting excess gas in the system, I would either reduce the amount of CO2 or increase the effluent drip rate accordingly while keeping the effluent PH b/t 6.5 - 6.7.

I used the Knop C for more than 2 years (upgraded to a Korallin 1502 due to increased demand) and although it can be a little finicky, I was very happy with its performance.

Thanks for the reply,

Are there any ca+ reactors out there that does not give you C02/ air buildup or do they all have the same problem?

The one I'm using now (Korallin 1502) has a second output line at the very top of the media chamber. I allow ~2-3 drips per minute out of this line which bleeds any excess CO2 from the system.

It sounds like the effluent drip rate should be increased or possibly your co2 rate should be reduced. I use a Knop c and have no problems with it. Try starting with a drip rate of 3 drops every 2 seconds and co2 at one bubble every 5 to 10 seconds. Start slow and adjust from there.

I´m having the same problem when I increased from 25 to 40 bubles per min. I´m thinking that the problem should be the PH inside the chamber that does the CO2 has not been consumed?

Am I right? How do I decreades the PH?
