Unhappy Dead cleaner shimp

Bought a cleaner shrimp today which lasted about an hour in my tank . I am not sure what got him!? I have 2 tangs, 2 damsels, and 2 clowns on top of a bunch of snails and 2 hermit crabs. Could any of the above killed it???

The damsels could be the culprits. What kind are they? Same thing with the clowns. If the clowns are larger ones like Maroon or Tomato clowns they could have killed your shrimp. Are you sure he's dead? Did you find a body or did he just dissapear?

I found the body and my nassarius snails are all over him! the damsels that I have are those black ones with white spots on them. One of the clowns is a maroon clown but he is small and does not appear to be very agressive towards other fish?

So you have dominoe damsels. They are extremely aggressive when they get big. How big are they now? I doubt it was the maroon clown if he is small. Also, how did you go about acclimating the shrimp? They are very sensitive to big changes in water chemistry.

I used drip acclimation method. Yes, the damn dominoes! They are about inch and a half big (from mouth to tail that is). I am planning to build a spear so I can take them out!

Haha, that sounds funny! By the way, what kind of tangs do you have?

Oh yeah, those dominoes could grow into 5 inch plus monsters, that even attack their owners, so I'd get rid of them while they are young and won't take your fingers off! lol

AT this point, using a spear seems like the last option since I have been trying to catch them for about a month now!!!

I have a hippo and a sailfin.

Damsels can be a pain. Have you tried using a trap yet? I have a sailfin tang and he just has the greatest personality.

I love my sailfin! I forgot to mention that I also have a foxface. My sailfin and foxface are two best frineds! they swim together, they eat together - don't think they sleep together!

No I have not tried the trap. I have heard about the traps but not sure how they will work as far as catching the right fish?

Yeah, usually you end up catching the wrong fish a few times, especially when they discover that there is food in there. The only other option is to remove the rocks from your tank in order to catch the damsels.

What are the dimensions on a 165 gallon tank?

The tank is 60" long, 24" wide, and 28" tall. I have a lot of rock and a "reef wall" so taking the rock out is pretty much out of the question.

I have never had the guts to take all of my rock out to catch a fish either. Luckilly the one fish that I ever have to catch, my sailfin tang who has had several problems with Amyloodinium since I got him, swims right up to the net when I put it in my tank. I guess he thinks it's seaweed!

how long did you acclimate for? inverts take longer than fish.

Sam - I was acclimating him for about 30 minutes. Was that not long enough?

IFbettas - that's pretty amazing!!

I had two damsels i nmy tank once and had to take all of the rock out to chase them around. It was a real pain, but I'm happy they're gone now because they were going after my clownfish and I was NOT happy with that.

when it comes to inverts, I like to acculimate them for 1.5-2 hours as they are more sensitive than fish.

I am not saying thats what killed it, but just something to keep in mind

I bought another one today. Still alive! I acclimated it for about 1.5 hours. The fish are lining up to him waiting to be cleaned! He is not cleaning them yet but feeling them out with his giant whiskers!
