9002 nano skimmer doesn't work
I hate to start off this way, but I recently purchased 3 tunze products because they were suposse to be the best. 2 nano powerheads, and a skimmer. The power heads start backwards 75% of the time so I have to keep turning them off then back on to get them to spin the right direction, and the skimmer just doesn't work at all. I was expecting quite a bit more from a company that has such a good reputation. At this time the powerheads aren't my concern I can turn them off and back on to get them to spin the right direction, no big deal, but I do need a working skimmer.
I tried setting it up the skimmer, but it wont pull any air. I have tried adjusting the air control knob, and it still wont pull any air. If I remove the collection cup, and blow into the air intake hole it will run and pull air for about 2-3 sec, but then nothing. I have tried taking it apart to make sure everything was inplace, and everything looks good, the skimmer just wont work. I have tried placing the 90 degree clear plastic piece the the connects the air line tubing to the pump vollute all the way in, half way in, and barely in with all of the same results. I am hoping you can help me out. I have heard these are suppose to be good skimmers, but I can't even get mine to work. Any ideas?

i am not real knowledgable with the inner workings of the 9002 so I will leave that for a true owner of one or the Tunze guys. But the nanostreams I can likely fix. Each one of them is dry tested at the factory using a bit of vaseline on the magnet/shaft. It is then wiped off but at times a little bit too much gets left on. Take out the impellerand wipe down the magnet and the shaft. As well as check to see if the washer under the impeller is stuck to the impeller if so wipe it off

I'm having the same issue with the 9002. The pump works and everything seems to be hooked up correctly...but when I turn it on it doesn't pull air from the air hose and bubble up? The hose is not constricted or anything because I can blow air into it manually to make it foam up but it will not do it on its own. Anyone know what the issue is?

Pay attention to this as this was the issue with mine...
When you close the top cap make sure that the tubing does not clapse, what I did with mine tubing is I just cut it shorter to make sure when I close the cap it does not clapse/fold... After I did this it worked as it should be! |

I have made sure that the tubing isn't colapsed. I have tried running it with the top off to check everything out, and still doesn't work right.
I took out the pump and volute, and put just those two things in a bucket, and it still would pull air. I was playing around with some ridgid airline tubing, and it almost seems as either the volute, or the clear 90 degree plastic piece was mis-manufactured.

The venturi you have is likely wrong, PM me your addresses and we will send one by Priority Mail. They had a production error a couple months ago and somehow venturis from an older obsolete skimmer were installed so you get no bubble production. It is an easy fix and I am sure it will solve the problem.
BTW, give the Nano Streams some time, this problem resolves itself within a few days usually but it can take up to a couple weeks. Usually if your run them continuously for 3 days though it will be solved.
