which sump configuration?
i have a 200g sump in the basement that i am adding a new skimmer and chaeto to.my skimmer needs to be only 8 in.deep .so should i build a platform on the bottom of my sump for my skimmer or put a rubbermaid tub on top of the sump that the return water flows through first before spilling into the sump though a hole thats cut to 8in.and put the skimmerand chaeto in there. the sump is empty its mostly for cooling and adding volume thanks for the input

Either approach sounds reasonable... If it were me, I'd probably go for the stand. Things I'd worry about would be making sure the skimmer doesn't fall off the stand...making sure it's accessible (for cup emptying / cleaning / etc.)
Also...just to think about...you don't have to fill your sump all the way. And you can put in baffles and whatnot to make parts with lower water levels... Go look at the stuff at Melev's site for some ideas - model G, for instance, has a skimmer stand.
