Filter sock question

How often do you change it? wash it?
Am I better off with it or without it?

i change mine weekly, and switch it with another one. i use 2 at a time in my filter system, and i have a total of 6 in rotation. 2 on, 2 being cleaned, and 2 ready to go.

Catches junk coming from the aquarium. I have four of them being used at a given time and rotate them with cleaned ones once per week.

It's any easy way to remove detritus from your tank. I started using one as my sump area is tight and it is difficult to vacuum.

don't buy just one. Changing/cleaning them frequently is important or else they quickly become detritus tea bags.

That is very true. It's best if you can change them out every 3 days or so. I have many of them and just toss them in a tub until I have enough to run them through the washing machine with a cup of bleach. I turn them inside out and rinse off any big stuff then toss them in the machine. I rinse them twice and then let them air dry completely before reusing to make sure the bleach is gone.

I don't use one. When I stir things up before a water change I'll throw some foam pads in the overflow until the water clears. That's about it. I like to let everything flow freely. Leftover food sitting in a filter sock for a few days doesn't sound like a good combination to me. Especially something meaty like prime reef or angel formula.

If you have uneaten food left over you are probably feeding too much.
