Frag Tank Water change with DT Water?

What do you guys think about using my DT tank water to change the water in my frag tank? The DT will have a calcium reactor on it.

would u not be introducing nitrates/phosphates? what r u trying to achieve with this water change? if its just to replenish trace elements wouldnt it be better just to dose ?

I'm not sure, would it be better to just dose? I have heard about using DT water for Quarantine Water changes. I was just wondering if it would work for a Frag Tank as well.

problem is...you would want your frag tank as clean as the display tank...so if you're taking the dirty water out of your display and putting it in the frag then your frag tank will always be dirtier (corals won't grow as fast). theoretically even though you're fragging and glueing they still should grow while they're in the frag tank!

If I were to give it a shot and the nitrates end up remaining at 0 would you still consider it dirtier? Would it lack necessary trace elements. I just was wondering because it would be very cost effective and I could do a more significant water change.

if you did say weekly water changes I think it would work. probably not "the best" but I don't really see that much of a problem. maybe the fragtank will grow a little slower. who knows.

I could do at the very least a 10% weekly change. Maybe 20.

ive done that before. if everythings in check your ok with doing it, you just wont be putting as much trace elements as you would be with fresh mix, plus side its already fully cycled so its a tad bit less of a shock on the system.

I say save yourself some work, don't dose and do water changes with a quality salt mix that has all the required trace elements.

I would use DT water for water changes of a QT but not for a frag tank.
