Black Sand?
I was told on here yesterday that you don't need to waste all your money on live sand, instead buy aragonite sugar grain size sand and let organisms from the live rock migrate to it. Is there black aragonite sand/ I've seen live black tahittan moon sand. but i can't seem to find aragonite. Black is supposed to accent the colors of the aquarium beatifilly but will it conduct to much heat from the light? also i am going to buy a mandarin a couple months after my rock and sand is well established. I here they aren't really dificult if you make absolutely sure the environment is ready and safe for them before you get them. I heard you need to establish a good colony of copepods? How do i do this are they safe for corals and other fish?

that moon sand I beleive is the same as aragonite sand. works well from what I have heard.
basically for a mandrin, you will want at least 80lbs of LR, and a fuge with some added LR rubble, after about 6 -8 months of it running you should see a good deal of pods in your tank. and yes they are reef safe. if you can find one that eats frozen foods that will also greatly help, but they will still needs pods to survive even with frozen foods. |
