i dont think so. they do all of their gas exchange through their gills.

and here's a cool tip...they dont pee either. they excrete their "urine" through their gills as well.

sorry for the triple post. i was trying to edit and it did that.

fish cant fart because they aren't "breathing" air, they are just pulling little "bubbles" out of the water with their gills. they dont ever have the opportunity to swollow gases, so cant fart gases.

the urine that is excreted isn't really urine, it is just the release of toxins such as ammonia and others that happen at the gills.

I had a large clown triggerfish back in the day which I would hand feed.He would stick his 'nose' out of the water and eat from my fingers (I managed to keep all of five of them, lol) anyways, I assumed he would swallow some air along with the food, because every so often I would see him swimming around and squirt a few bubbles out. It was most amusing!

why would you assume that bubbles in your tank are from fish. they are probably built up under your rock or in your sand bed.

No lie, I saw my Clark's clown fart, unless they're really good illusionists.

I don't think you actually need to swallow air to fart. I believe that natural chemical reactions in the digestive system can produce gases. This is why certain foods give you more gas than others. It's part of breaking down what you eat. Has nothing/very little to do with breathing and gas exchange for the circulatory system.

I agree with scottl and think the bacteria in your gut produce the methane you expel. I would say they do, but can't say that i've ever seen it. I shall be watching very closely this weekend
