How much do you pay for salt? and where?
I'm just trying to get an Idea of what the prices of salt were around the world.
For instance, I buy my salt in 5 gallon buckets at Animal Kingdom. I only use Reef Crystals and I pay $69.00 plus tax in New York. Are there any cheaper places? That’s what I hope to accomplish with this thread. With the ever raising cost of fuel I'm willing to try to save anywhere I can. I know there are lots of brands and people don't all buy 5gal at a time but let’s see if we can help each other out. Thanks!

OMG that is outrageous--you are getting ripped. I use Reef Crystals and I buy it in 5 gal buckets (160 gallons) as well and I pay $32 plus about $10 in shipping (i usually combine it with something else I need). www.thatfishplace.com.

I have been paying $60 per 5g bucket of Reef Crystals here in Kansas. I was going to order it from Marine Depot for $35..but they add $20 per bucket shipping. It wouldn't have made a difference. I wish I had known about Dr F&S. I'm going to order several buckets for the same price I was paying for one.

drs foster and smith offers the $33 a bucket sale every so often with $7-10 shipping. find yourself a $5-10 off coupon and order 3+ buckets and you have yourself a smokin deal.

I get reef crystals delivered to my front door from Dr Foster & Smith. It's cheaper to get it delivered then It is for me to go and buy it locally. Plus it kinda sux lugging those heavy 5 gallon containers around.

DR foster smith here as well.
I buy it in the bags, a bit more expensive, but I mix 50gallons of water at a time, simplifies things.

I actually buy mine at petsmart. If you print the product page from any other vendor (including petsmart online which is cheaper than the store) they will match it.
I always search around for the best price, print it, and drive 5 minutes to petsmart. Usually get it around $30 or so for a 5 gallon bucket of IO. They usually don't have reef crystals in store.

dcombs44 - I do the same thing 30-35 for a bucket of Instant Ocean from Petsmart as long as you bring the internet coupon in.

I should probably find a cheaper LFS for my drygoods...

Its amazing how much more I spent in salt over the years....I should have searched a little better before I assumed that $70+ was normal.

I get the 200 gallon box of IO at the local LFS for 31.99. I still haven't figured out why they have it so cheap!
